Title: Generative AI & SGE: communicative experiences in the English language classes
Abstract:
AI-supported solutions in the field of English language teaching though much talked about, but not so well understood in terms of applicability within the challenges of the ELT classes.
- How can generative AI be used in the English language classes in order to make a difference to the learning experience of the students?
- What's the strategic importance of teacher development to gain confidence and expertise in using generative AI?
- How can teachers deal with the hallucination issue and the limitations?
In this talk I intend to address the key features of generative AI that can be mobile friendly, beneficial and enhance the language learning experience of the students along with sharing my findings and strategies to integrate AI via BYOD mobile learning [both conversational and generative possibilities] to some classes along the course of a semester.Let’s differentiate between the mobile-friendly artificial intelligence tools and understand the suitability for the age ranges and CEFR levels (Common European Framework of Reference), in activities conducted during the class time and with the teacher supervision and guidance. The need of a strong pedagogical support and opportunities for the continuous professional development of the language teachers, along with a concern with accessibility and suggested action steps and data from the current 2023 GUIDANCE FOR GENERATIVE AI IN EDUCATION by Unesco will also be pointed out.
